The principal of Delta High School, Derek Carlson, wrote a grant for the Youth Connection to connect peers at our school; the DHS administration decided to implement this grant through our clubs.
Other than connecting peers with the traditional ways of athletics or music, they wanted to go outside the box. Some of the provided clubs are Beauty Club, Dessert Club, Ceramic Painting Club, TTRPG Board Game Club, Yoga Club, Photography Club, Guitar Club, and Homework Help. The good thing about clubs is that anyone can join. You don’t have to pay any money to come in and have fun. There’s also a homework club dedicated to helping students with their schoolwork.
The Beauty Club is a well-liked club among our students. “Honestly, it just gives me something to do besides stay at home. So it just benefits me from staying home all day… It’s easier to communicate [in the club] and I think it’s going well,” said Zailyn Gallardo ’27, one of the many people who attends this club.
Tamara Astin is the leader of the beauty club. She teaches them to paint nails, learn hairstyles, and get makeup tricks online which helps many people if they want to have a career in this field.
Gallardo is one of the people thinking about having a job related to this. “I’m kind of thinking about doing cosmetics when I’m older, maybe like a potential job, and I really wanted to learn a few more basics,” said Gallardo.
The Photography Club has five people, but the quality is not quantity and people seem to enjoy the activities in this club. “I think it’s really good and it’s really fun to actually find people that like the same stuff as you because photography is not very popular,” said Karena Barajas ’27.
All clubs at Delta High School help bring students together to experience new and old things. Austin Kimber leads the students in taking good pictures on their phones or cameras if they can provide their own.
“[I was] sick and tired of watching my camera collect dust on my shelf,” said Barajas. She took the initiative to change the way she saw the world with just a click of an old camera that was just lying around her house. She also has an opportunity to have a career in this field or take it up as a hobby.
These are just some of the clubs that DHS offers. Many more clubs may interest students like Guitar Club or Yoga Club, so make sure to sign up for some clubs next year.
