Construction at Delta High School finally started at the beginning of January.
These new additions include a security entrance, an auxiliary gym, a weight room, and also a much-needed update to the HVAC system in classrooms.
Currently, the gym and the weight room are the first additions that are being renovated. All locker rooms, the wrestling and weight rooms, and parts of the tech lab will be remodeled.
“These remodeled areas will include new and updated locker rooms, wrestling room, restrooms, coaches offices, training room, corridor access, and a team room/classroom,” said Principal Derek Carlson.
With this area fenced off, the traffic and parking spaces have been reduced in the east lot. A new traffic pattern has been released to all staff and parents in this week’s newsletter. However, even with the new traffic pattern, there is still a lot of traffic buildup.
After the school year ends, construction for the new security entrance will begin. This new entrance will extend to the south where the current DHS entrance is located. Carlson believes that this entrance will be a great benefit.
“The safety entrance will help to increase the overall safety of our facility, also contributing to improved comfort for our students and staff”, said Carlson.
Carlson also believes that these new amenities such as the new HVAC system will be a huge benefit to students and staff.
“This project will benefit our students by providing improved space with modern amenities that will increase comfort and the overall environment that students and staff work and learn in”, said Carlson.
Business teacher Von Mitchell thinks this new construction is going to be a fantastic addition to the school.
“It’s going to be fantastic in the sense that we’re getting a new gym. That alone is great. Now, no more late practices for kids and coaches. You can have two JV games going at the same time during basketball season [and] volleyball season so games can be played quicker. That one thing alone is going to benefit the school a lot and then the rest, you know I guess we’ll see what else gets built”, said Mitchell.
Math teacher Renee Cronenberg is excited about the new safety entrance.
“I’m excited about the new entrance with a few more safety features so we feel safe for people that are coming in and out walking down the halls”, said Cronenberg.
All construction for this project is estimated to end around this time in 2025.
“We look forward to this project and an updated Delta High School”, said Carlson.
