We have all looked around and seen the many, many problems with our school. From the bathroom doors to the old, problematic outlets, even to the leaky faucets. As the years go on, controlling all of these issues has gotten out of hand. Students are partly at fault for not treating the school building in the correct manner, but part of the issues do come from the age and history of Delta High School. It may be time for an upgrade, but first, people need to understand the history.
After the first High School building was no longer in use, the newest part of the building was built in 2008, while the oldest was built in 1980. “The original one was like 1980,” Jeremy McCormick said.
The almost 45-year-old building has done its job holding hundreds of students. “I feel like it has a really good structure,” said Senior, Mialisoa Randria.
Because of the obvious age of the school, it may be time for an update. McCormick explains that updates are in the near future, especially with the new construction breaking ground. “They will put new lights in the hallways, and some new ceiling tiles,” said McCormick.
Students are also recognizing the building slowly wearing down.
“But as time goes on, it just gets worse and worse, and like no one does anything about it,” said Randria.
Even though small updates will be coming, that does not mean the building is still not in need of desperate elbow grease. “The carpet is worn out. Yes, we would like to see some serious remodeling done,” said McCormick.
It was practically a miracle when funding came in for the new auxiliary gym and a new entrance. “I know they are focused on this new construction with the new entry and gym,” said McCormick.
But students also need to realize that Delta High School is old and everyone has to do a part in taking care of it. Some students such as Morgan Farmer have some specific things they would like to see “It would be nice to see some new bathrooms. The ones we have are kind of gross,” said Farmer.
Another big issue is the heating and cooling system. “We are also supposed to be getting HVAC which is heating ventilations and new AC,” said McCormick.
Students hope to get Delta High -School completely up to date in the near future. “It’s always nice to get that it’s just a matter of funding,” McCormick said.
