Ever since the start of construction for the gym and new locker rooms, half of the parking lot has been overtaken by fences blocking off the construction zone.
How does this affect Delta High School drivers? Or how does it affect someone if their parking spaces got taken?
Freshman Pacey Smith wishes there were more parking spaces. “It’s just very rough trying to find parking and having to park on the dirt on the side. It kinda sucks, but it is what it is,” said Smith.
Another student here at Delta High School, Morgan Farmer, voiced concern about the amount of space in the parking lot. “I think that taking away a bunch of spaces is actually kind of dangerous because in my case, my car got hit because there wasn’t enough room for somebody to back out. So I think it could lead to more accidents,” said Farmer.
Also voicing concern about DHS students’ own parking lot spots, ”And also, it’s just kind of annoying because we all shift around parking spaces every day. You know, we don’t have our own parking space anymore,“ said Farmer.
Steve Reiher, a teacher here at DHS, thinks that there is enough space for students in the front, but also thought of teachers in the staff parking lot. ”As far as students parking out back, I think there’s enough parking around in the parking areas that they don’t need to be taking up spots in the teacher’s parking lot. It’s tough enough for teachers to find parking with all the different number of individuals we have working here, so when they don’t have parking spots, it makes it a little more difficult,” said Reiher.
The principal of Delta High School, Derek Carlson, knows what the plan is for the future and what to expect for the parking lot. “So when this project is completed, the plan is going to change all of that. So how there’s like a route through, that’s going to change, and ultimately that will reconfigure so that basically on that roadway and sidewalks that are currently taking up a lot of space that will all get reconfigured into parking spaces,” said Carlson.
Carlson also knows the plan and future of what is to come for the bus loop .“The bus configuration will come from Pioneer Road and they’ll drop off and go back out Pioneer Road. So basically we’ll take away any kind of shared traffic between buses and parking, and so the parking will be all of to the south and the buses entryway and exit will be to the west,” said Carlson.
