Her experience: It was my senior year and when I was graduating from high school, there was a boy in our class who graduated early and some of his students in my class decided they didn’t want him going to Prom and doing the after school celebrations and whatnot because he didn’t finish the year he was with us, and so he was not on the Prom list. So I invited him to Prom because I thought he should come to our senior Prom and so I invited him and I just said, “Hey, John, you want to go to Prom?” And he said sure. So we went. So it wasn’t a big deal.
Her tips for others: I would say that, pick somebody that you know you want to hang out with for the evening. And I don’t think there’s any need to make it silly or special. Just ask them if they want to go and then you go and have the best time you can. I know that there’s a real thought that you need to make it special and flashy but I didn’t think that that was so important. But you have to remember that when I went to Prom, it was a long time ago.
Her favorite promposal she has seen: I like the ones where the guys come to the girls in front of all their friends with a bouquet of flowers and say ‘Will you go to prom with me?’ I did see one that was pretty cool where the guy actually wrote a song for the girl which I thought was pretty special. But I also think that the girls need to be willing to ask the guys and don’t wait around because guys are sometimes slow.
