After seven home game wins, The Panthers had to bow down to a much stronger Basalt team. Although many people were waiting for this match, the result was not up to expectations, the score : 30-14.
“Basalt was a much better running team than we anticipated. They only threw the ball a handful of times”,Coach Hamm said.
The Panthers had a lot of trouble on defense. Indeed, Basalt attack has posed many problems for the defense.
“[For the next game, we want to] Have a better plan on defense” Coach Jesse Kendig said. For coach Hamm, the team did not play at their best level “We didn’t execute at a level that is normal for us and it ended up leading to a disappointing loss”.
Players on the team made other observations : “Some weaknesses would be our offense and our D-line at times, ” said the Junior Alonzo Huerta.
“I think that there were a lot of mental errors during that game,”Layne Sanchez.
This defeat against a quality opponent is therefore frustrating for many football players. Training is therefore still necessary to hope to win the title of State Championship once again.
“We need to get back to practice and improve the mistakes that we made and hopefully play better moving forward, ”Coach Hamm said.
The team remains very motivated for the rest of the season. “Something that the team would like to let everyone know is that we are gonna work and make these weaknesses better, ” Alonso Huerta said.
