The fall choir concert was amazing for Delta High School to advance peoples musical horizons. The choir instructor, Thomas Neil had a lot to say about the concert.
“Truly, I think the concert went very well. Most fall concerts are always tricky but he thinks we are all off to a very strong start.”
“The only thing I would try to accomplish next time is just a little more time with our accompanist before the concert to get more comfortable singing, but it just was not possible to do so.”
Mr. Thomas Neil joined choir for the very first time back in 2014 and has been in choir ever since.
“My first choir position was in Delta starting in the fall of 2022.”
He sang at Delta High School before continuing his education at Colorado Mesa University studying vocal performance and music business. He then spent the first two years of his teaching career/position in Delta earning an alternative teacher’s license.
Women’s choir is more challengingfor him to direct, mostly because he has never sung in a women’s choir. That being said, the women’s choir this year is made up of mostly new singers and he feels like we are off to a fantastic start. The next chapter of the women’s choir will depend on how hard the students decide to work as we continue forward.
Mr. Thomas Neil is a very supportive and interactive teacher and director, so much so he involves his students into an interactive musical introduction.
Cassie Sparks Alvarezis a junior in the women’s choir..
In her opinion the concert didn’t do as well as we could have, but other than that it was good.
“Something we could have done to be better is actually trying to sing the songs and have more time to practice each song..”
Cassie has been in choir since she was in 5th grade and has been ever since.
She doesn’t really have an opinion on mixed and women’s choir but she likes her part and role a lot. Every year she has been in choir she has done a different part and it’s so much fun to experience every day as an alto in a women’s choir.
Amiah Lake is a freshman in the women’s choir and has a great opinion about the choir concert.
In her opinion it went alright but it could have gone better than how it went.
“Something we could have done better is have more time to figure out the piano part and the pitches for sopranos.”
She thinks mixed choir and women’s choir both have their own parts that are better than the other, but she likes being in women’s choir as a soprano.
Overall the October 7, 2024 fall concert was a great start to the Delta High School choir singing start up.
