Finals are quickly approaching here at Delta High School. Students have mixed feelings about whether they want to get them over with or are stressed about them.
DHS also has a new finals schedule this year, with finals being spread throughout the week, not just crammed into two days.
Roseann Johnson, principal at DHS, explained the change in finals: “We wanted all teachers to be more consistent in the finals that they gave to students, so the expectations were the same for everyone. We also wanted to change to make the days more normal, so it doesn’t throw off everyone’s schedule,” Johnson said.
This new schedule is a relief for some students, but some want to get it over with sooner. Senior Brianna Huff is optimistic about this new schedule and looks forward to it. “I think the schedule might help a lot more students feel less stressed, having them mixed instead of in two days, and hopefully everyone will do better. I think it’s something new and might be exactly what we need,” Huff said.
Johnson also hopes that this new schedule will help students. ”I hope that it helps students because it is more consistent and the expectations are the same so students know what to expect. I also hope that keeping the bell schedule the same, will have a positive effect on the students,” Johnson said.
Of course, there are many different ways students prepare for finals: studying, reviewing, or even going into the test with your best efforts. Freshman Faith Brunner has ways of reviewing for finals. “I take good notes and study at home,” Brunner said.
Huff has different ways of preparing for finals. “I study for finals by using the review guides the teachers give me and looking back at previous units, especially concepts I start to forget about. Also, the teachers are always willing to help answer questions or get you more prepared, which is always nice.”
Grayson Hunter, a freshman at DHS, is also preparing for finals. “To prepare for finals I usually will go over some of the work we have done in class (past) and sleep more than usual,” Hunter said.
Students all have different finals for which they feel most prepared. Whether it’s their science class or an elective, each student has a different final they’re most confident in. “I think it would be AP Lit or Gov because I think I’m the most prepared for those,” Huff said.
Hunter feels most prepared for his U.S. history final. “I feel like I am most prepared for social studies because he [Hamilton] has been preparing us for the finals,” Hunter said.
Good luck to everyone taking finals this week!
