After-school clubs at Delta High School are back and will be starting on the 13 of January going until February 14 with multiple changes. Clubs will now be hosted in the cafeteria and will run from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm and will have various activities depending on the day.
Mondays will be video gaming on the big screen, Tuesdays will be Lego creations, Wednesdays will be “Design Your Own T-shirt” and Thursdays and Fridays, Dungeons and Dragons. Clubs will also be available to any DHS student with no signup required.
Tamara Astin, student success advocate at DHS, explained the changes in the after-school clubs: “We’re doing it a little bit differently so that anyone can just come. It’s going to be in the cafeteria and then people can just stop by. We are also hosting the clubs in the cafeteria because I think it would get more student involvement and students can come and go as they please; they don’t have to be there for the whole time,” said Astin.
There have been multiple changes in the new after-school clubs to get more student involvement, but the big question is: Will it work?
Alexis Lynd, a sophomore at DHS, commented on how she felt about the new changes: ”I really like the changes because we have better options and also a bigger budget for students that want to try new activities. I also feel like it’s easier to go to one club once a week but the club that I’m going to this year, not a lot of people showed up,” said Lynd.
Pablo Payan, multi-media & digital arts instructor and host of the Design Your Own T-shirt club at DHS also shared details about the changes. “I feel like it’s a great idea to try to get kids to be involved. There’s just not a lot of kids who wanna do stuff. Most kids just want to leave after school,” said Payan.
