There are gaps between the wooden boards, stickers that look like they can be peeled off with your fingernail, and no coating. Despite the 30 million-dollar bond project, the brand-new aux gym floor looks far less than new.
The high school administration is aware of the problem and is currently addressing the problem.
Jeremy McCormick, the athletic director, said, “We are currently in discussions with the contractor, the general contractor who installed the floor and handled the painting, regarding a warranty claim situation. As of now, nothing has been resolved, but the issue is under review at various levels. I’m uncertain if they’re actively working on it at this moment. This is concerning, and we are doing our best to follow the correct procedures and protocols to find an answer. However, I can’t say when they will have a solution or if they even know at this point.”
Roseann Johnson, the principal at Delta High School, commented on the gym floor and said “Every five years The courts get sanded down to the wood but over the five years we add a layer of vinyl.”
Cody Bryce, one of Delta County’s maintenance employees said “We are still waiting for the company to get back to us. We waited for the recommended 30 days for the wood to dry,
but the wood for some reason dried a little too much.”
To this day the gym floor still has spaces in between the wood and a less protective layer on it.
