Policy Review
Two policies have been moved from the second to the third: the ACA (Non-legal name changes) and the ACA-R (Request for Non-Legel name change).
Delta County Schools HR director Derek Carlson has requested approval for these policies. The Delta County School District’s rules require that students inform at least one parent to complete a name change. This was a state-level law passed by a four-to-one vote.
Council Update
The student council has visited the middle schools across the district and has presented the vaping and opiate danger discussion. the Delta County Youth Connections team put on assemblies at the area K8 schools about opiate and vaping dangers. By doing this they hope this year could be more focused in class.
Superintendent Reports
The board approved the three-year calendar adaption in December. Still, the technology resource group noticed that next year, and next year only, the scheduled fall break falls in an October window when the district will count students. They are asking to move the fall break back one week. Karen Gibson, DHS Superintendent, said, “The reason it was moved up is because we heard from staff that it felt like a long time from when school started to the beginning of break.” In the end, the calendar change was approved.
