Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and with it the traditional sale of roses organized by FFA.
For years, the FFA has been providing beautiful roses to school members and the community.
“We’ve been doing this for a pretty long time, at least for seven or eight years now,” said Anika Hovel, FFA chapter secretary.
The roses are available for purchase by anyone, although the majority of orders come from high school and middle school teachers. The orders are open to everyone in the community, so anyone can buy,” said Hovel. “But we usually have a lot of high school and middle school teachers.”
“This year I have ordered a dozen red roses,” said Renee Cronenberg, Math teacher. “I have ordered them for all the years that FFA has sold them,” she continued.
“I buy them for my Mom. My Dad always bought her roses, since he has passed away. I always get her flowers,” she said.
To ensure that everyone has a chance to order, the FFA promotes sales through social media. “Yes, we post the order forms on our social media and we’ve got a lot of community members that follow there,” Hovel said.
This year, the FFA sold 28 bouquets, including options for half a dozen and a dozen roses. The roses are carefully ordered from the local market, ensuring that the chapter has the right amount of flowers for all pre-ordered arrangements.
“We work with the City Market floral department to order all of our flowers,” FFA teacher Samantha Diaz said. “We took orders ahead of time so we are only making flowers that are already sold.”
“But if we do [have extras], we use them for practice,” said Hovel.
The money raised will be invested in projects with the class. “The money mostly will cover the costs of flowers and vases, but additional money helps fund the floral team practice through the semester for our spring contests,” Diaz said.
This sale is also a way for people to support FFA. “I have always supported FFA in the past and will continue to do so,” Cronenberg said.
