Many teenagers go around looking for jobs during the summer. It can be hard looking for a job when there are a lot of people applying for the same job. The Nature Connection is opening up new opportunities for those looking for summer jobs.
There are different types of “stations” that students can apply for. Some are here in Delta, others are at Hotchkiss, and some just rotate around.
Jessica Finnigan, the Executive Director at the Nature Connectisaz mm on, came down and talked a little bit about each of the jobs students can apply for.
First off, if some are wondering about requirements Finnegan explained, “You can be as young as 14 to graduate,” said Finnigan. The first position, camp counselor, is located in both Delta and in Hotchkiss. “Those are to help support a couple of our camps. We have two camps in Delta and Hotchkiss for 7 to 11-year-olds. These counselors are doing all the activities for the week and helping supervise the campers., and modeling for them, planning activities [etc.],” said Finnigan. If you are the type of person who likes to organize events, this would be a good position for you.
“We have a new little kids camp which we are calling ‘littler wild’ and it is located in Hotchkiss. That is for 4 and 6-year-olds. You do the same thing. You supervise them managing activities, but just for a younger age,” said Finnigan. There also are Water Sport Interns who work out at Switer Lake and they loan out paddle boards to the public. Media Interns are also another position that is available to apply to. They document all of the work that is done, with photos and videos
Something that almost everyone looks forward to is the paycheck. “Starting salary is $14.42 [an hour], but for more experienced applicants, that number could be higher,” said Finnigan. This is a good payment to start off. Other places will not pay as much because of age requirements.
Finnegan offered tips for future applicants: “I would say come in with a good attitude and be willing to learn, work well with your peers, be a team player, and communicate clearly with your supervisor,” said Finnigan. Finnigan gives out these tips because she wants all of the new applicants to have a good time.
