This summer, Teresa Davis, a math instructor at Delta High School, and two of her students, Ashley Kirstatter and Abigail Bloom, are going to Alaska to give a helping hand at Davis’s family-owned lodge called “The Cove”.
Davis said, “The serenity is incredible. I also bring kids that would never have a chance to go to Alaska and go fishing.”
Despite the serenity and the fishing, Davis still has a job to do.
Davis is one of the managers. “I make sure the facility is ready and raring to go, and I manage the employees that are there because they do have to work, and I also help with whatever needs to be done,” said Davis.
“ I don’t do any of the cooking. That’s our chefs. They do that, but I make sure I handle all of the logistics that go with making sure the employees are doing well and that the facility is in top-notch shape, and help out wherever is needed,” Davis said
The students who are going to Alaska do not need to pay for the trip; it is 100% free for them. They get to fish, and whatever they catch, they get to bring home from Alaska.
Abigail Bloom, one of the two students going, is excited because this is her first time going to Alaska. “I am going to fish and just be in a new and beautiful place,” Bloom said.
As a temporary employee there, she will take care of the guests, prepare the food, and help with whatever they need her to do.
“I am the first in my family to go to Alaska, but I am also worried about flying because I have never flown before,” Bloom said.
Bloom isn’t the only one who is excited. Ashley Kirstatter is excited because he has never been to Alaska before. “I love nature. I haven’t had time to just be alone ever since the beginning of school,” Kirstatter said.
“I am always busy with school and always having to do something, but on my days off, I will be able to relax and just be calm,” Kirstatter said.
Even though Kirstatter is going to enjoy a free trip to Alaska, he is still going to have to work. “When we get there, we will need to sand and oil all the floor planks, and I am going to help with all the heavy lifting. Overall, I think this will be a really fun experience.”
