Many people have been driving and been surprised by the remodel of a building on Main Street, with a pink facade, a glass dome, and a shiny pegasus on top.
The building is not going to be an exotic dancing building or bar like many members of the community guessed; in fact, the owners are strongly against the idea.
Victoria Sterkel, one of the owners and main designers of the building, said, “I hate alcohol and I refuse to be responsible or deal with alcoholics.”
The owners said it will be a rentable space for pop-up stores, business meetings, and small parties. Their goal is to make it “Swagicious,” said Sterkel.
The back part, after 75ft of commercial space, is their house that they live in, “residential in the back, and commercial in the front,” said Sterkel. The rentable space is called La Bon Bon, which is French for candy.
One year ago, the building was a victim of a fire; the owners are still cleaning the building, but it is livable. The glass dome up top is a greenhouse that acts like their garden. The roof is covered with turf now and is their outdoor lawn, since “basically we do not own outside space,” said Nelson. Adjacent to this space, Poverati, their pegasus statue, stands on top of the building, fitting Sterkel’s art deco theme.
Their goal is an Art Deco style that matches the original facade, which was built in 1931. According to Lance Nelson, the other owner of the building, it won’t be the same as the original, which was the Durant Dealership for cars. Once it became Jean Westerners, the original ‘30s facade was torn off in favor of a more modern look.
The couple dreams of having art galleries and dances with 1930s-esque swing music.
They will also have singing bowls, which are a type of sound therapy. They drench your body in “medicinal vibrations.” The practice comes from Asia, mainly Mongolia.
According to a study done by University Hospital Regensburg, “The neurophysiological effects of a singing bowl sound massage may be interpreted as a shift towards a more mindful, meditative state of consciousness. The intervention was perceived as beneficial for the well-being.”
The couple is planning to host speed dating events in the building.
Speed dating is defined by Cambridge Dictionary as” a way of meeting people for possible romantic relationships that involves talking with a lot of people for a short time to see if you like them.”
This could be a great time for Delta youth, encouraging young people to go meet potential future partners.
For anyone wishing to rent the space, it is too soon to say the cost for renting La Bon Bon.
