The Super Mario Bros. Movie review

The Super Mario Bros. Movie review

Kenneth Osborn

The new Super Mario Bros. Movie was released Wednesday, April 5th, and was a really good movie. The movie targets kids but in reality, you can enjoy it at any age. The movie’s pacing was good and it had a great storyline and plot. The graphics were amazing and so was the voice acting. What surprised me the most was Chris Pratt as Mario because from the trailers he did not sound like Mario and this brewed controversy of whether it’d be good or not, but while watching the movie it didn’t sound as bad.

With a stacked voice acting cast consisting of Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegen-Michell Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, and Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, this movie was a blast to see.

The story is original with it following the guidelines of the game where Bowser loves Peach and Mario has to save her. It does include a lot of the other Mario game teasers with the major one being the drivable carts from the Mario Kart franchise.

Jack Black as Bowser was also fun to watch as some people thought they would only hear Jack Black and that he wouldn’t sound right. His voice perfectly matches what people thought Bowser would sound like and the humor that Black incorporated was hilarious.

Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach was alright her voice was also perfect for Peach but her character wasn’t that good, development-wise. It was almost incorporating Daisy’s character into Peach, becoming hard-headed and not as dainty as seen in the game versions. Other than that, she was good as Peach and for other movies, It would be nice to see more development of her character.

Charlie Day as Luigi was a really good choice because even though he wasn’t the main character there was excitement whenever he came on screen. He portrayed Luigi as a frightful person perfectly and had some really good scenes.

Keegan-Michelle Key did pretty well as Toad because even though the voice was a little off and didn’t sound right. It didn’t sound bad throughout the movie and he voiced Toad like he was different from the other mushroom characters and more courageous.

Seth Rogan as Donkey Kong was weird because the way that Donkey Kong was portrayed was not what most people expected with him being mean towards Mario. Seth Rogan also didn’t put on a voice but instead did his own voice which sounded fine and Donkey Kong as a character was really good.

Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong was a good choice but he didn’t show up often during the movie. His character was good but they could have included him more in the story.

Toward the end of the movie, it wasn’t a basic saving Princess Peach from Bowser kind of ending but they put a twist on it that made it better. Where they go back to the real world and Luigi and Mario defeat Bowserr together with a superstar. Overall the movie was 8.5/10 and It is a must-see movie.
