Ready To Serve: Taylor Gibson Brings New Energy To the Court

After the volleyball season this year, many parents and athletes felt as if a new change was needed, since over the past two years, the Delta volleyball team struggled throughout the season.

Many had different opinions on whether the rough season was because of the athletes or the coaches. Although it is common for teams to occasionally have ups and downs, in 2024, after the sudden head coach change, things began to go downhill.

The 2024-2025 season ended with 11 wins and 14 losses, and the 2025-2026 season ended with 5 wins and 18 losses.

In early February, Taylor Gibson became the new head coach for Delta High Volleyball. After graduating from Olathe High School, Gibson went to Otero Junior High School, where she had a starting position as a setter for the team for two years. Her experience at the collegiate level helped her grow not only as a player, but also as a leader and later on to be a coach.

Coach Gibson has had much coaching experience and was a head coach at both Gunnison and Cedaredge High School. She also has some experience from Delta High as an assistant coach a few years ago.

Although we weren’t able to receive direct quotes from Gibson, it is clear that her background in volleyball has shaped the way she coaches and how she is a leader.

Isabella Gonzalez, a junior and volleyball player from Delta High said: “I’m very excited to have Mrs.Gibson as our new Head Coach. She coached me in middle school, and she was one of the few coaches I’ve had that stuck with me because of her passion and love she has for coaching, which is very evident in everything she does.”

While playing at the high school and college level, Gibson gained a strong understanding of the game.

Many other volleyball players are looking forward to the new and wonderful season to come, including Danika Queen, a Junior and volleyball player from Delta High. “I’m very excited for this next season. I think that Mrs.Gibson will bring some good things to the program, and it should be a fun next season.”
