As the winter season approaches, communities all over western Colorado are having Christmas experiences for all to enjoy. Christmas events are out there for everyone.
In Grand Junction, Montrose, and Delta, the annual Parade of Lights is an amazing tradition. Delta’s parade of lights will take place this Friday, December 5, beginning at 6 p.m. Montrose’s parade follows on Saturday, December 6, also starting at 6 p.m. Olathe’s parade of lights is coming up next weekend, December 12, starting at 6 p.m. too. Hundreds of people gather in the streets to watch floats pass by. Each float carries its own theme with so much variety. The best way to watch is to drink hot chocolate and bring a blanket!

Opening days for ski resorts are happening. Powderhorn Mountain Resort’s opening day is this Friday, December 5. The resort received 10 inches of fresh snow, allowing them to confirm the opening date.
If you enjoy beautiful scenery, then visiting nearby mountain areas like Rifle Mountain Park will be a fun and quick getaway! The snowy canyon scenery has become a popular backdrop for pictures!
One of the most unique holiday experiences is the Polar Express event in Durango. This event is based on a popular Christmas movie
and book. The passengers get to board a train, drink hot chocolate, listen to a reading of the story, and ride through the snowy scenery. Santa visits each train car on the way back, giving out the “first gift of Christmas.” Many families travel to Durango just for the Polar Express experience.
