Reading is back and boomin’. 2026 is the National Year of Reading. As a huge campaign in the UK, it brings attention to the decline in reading and encourages everyone to read again. With 170 million books across the world, what’s next?
Question: What’s your favourite book and why? Would you recommend this book to other people?

Freshman Adelaide Lebsack: “My favorite book is I Medusa by Ayana Gray because it tells the story of Medusa while mixing Greek and Roman mythology, while adding an author’s twist just to make it a bit more fun. It’s a really engaging book. I would recommend this book to other people because it engages the reader it also tells a common mythological story.”

Sophomore Brooklyn Hughes: “My favorite book is Better Than The Movies by Lynn Painter because it’s super interesting and a fun read. I would for sure recommend this book.”

Sophomore Aiden Duty: “My favorite books are The 5th Wave trilogy by Rick Yancey because it’s super interesting. It made me think a lot, and it has a lot of references to the real world that I find interesting. I would one hundred percent recommend this book. It’s a really good read.”

Junior Haylei Bayless: “My favorite book is If He Had Been With Me by Laura Nowlin because it is relatable age-wise and it’s a romance book. The ending had a really emotional impact on me, and I really like books like that. It’s a really well-known book, too. I would recommend it if you’re into romance.”

Senior Shelby Pride: “My favorite book is No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai. I like it because a lot of people have felt, at least once in their lives, that they don’t belong. And this book can help people remember that they aren’t alone with that feeling. It is about struggling to live and find importance in everyday life. I think there’s a moment, if not multiple, where everyone feels like a disappointment or as if they don’t belong. And I think deep down most people know that everyone is here for a reason, and everyone belongs somewhere even if they haven’t found out where yet.”

Teacher Laurie Ranum: “My favorite book for a long time was Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell, but my latest favorite book is A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. It’s kind of a historical fiction in the sense that it takes place during the Russian Revolution. I enjoyed reading and learning about Russian History. It’s about the things that make your life quality. It was a cool book. I would definitely recommend it to people.”
