The FFA was looking for land for the spring/summer growing season, and they are pleased to announce they have secured it.
FFA will begin plowing the football field at Delta High School on April 3, 2026. They will be planting corn this year. In future years, they have talked about growing other crops. This is necessary for crop rotation, so that the soil does not get depleted of nutrients for the various crops.
It is felt that the FFA students need more hands-on experience growing crops, and this will further their education in agriculture. All FFA students will have to work in the field and do the various chores required. Ms. Diaz commented, “This will give the students more opportunities to earn their required points for the year.”
They have secured several growers in the community to come in and teach them all the aspects they need, and they will be available for questions throughout the season. These growers are volunteers and are incredibly happy to share their knowledge with the next generation.
They are in hopes of having a big enough crop to serve corn on the cob the first week of school. Samantha Diaz stated, “What a great treat to serve to welcome the students back to school.”
“Although this will put a bind on the football team for a brief time in the fall, it is felt that they can recover from this setback in no time and is not that big of a deal” stated Samantha Diaz.
The School Board decided that a field that is only used for a brief time in the fall should be used for other things as well to make it cost-effective.
Jeremey McCormick, The Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, said “Practicing and playing at another field for the first part of the season will be a challenge; we do not like this at all.”
Graduation will be held indoors. Administration and Seniors will need to plan accordingly.
The FFA students and School Board will be happy to answer any questions that you may have regarding this announcement.
