Lucas Priestley knows exactly what he wants for his future lifestyle. A comfortable life in the future and a motorcycle. But how will he achieve this lifestyle?
“After I graduate from high school I’m gonna work for the summer and hopefully buy a motorcycle. Afterwards I’m leaving to go to WyoTech in Laramie Wyoming and I will study to become a Diesel Service Technician and Upfit Mechanic,” he said.
Priestley didn’t do much during his four years of high school. He took the classes he needed to get the credits he needed for the future that he wants.“I worked so that I can get the diploma I need if I want to be able to live any sort of comfortable life. I did band and that’s about it. High school isn’t a fun place and I doubt there’s anything I could have done differently to make me enjoy it more. But the best thing about high school was my friends,” Priestley said.
His love for mechanics is as clear as his plans for the future. “I’m going to be an upfit mechanic for Hennessey Performance in Sealy, Texas. After that I’m going back to diesel semi-trucks and work for some random shop in the middle of the mountains because then I can get away from the crazy for the remainder of my life,” he said. If he had it his way, Delta High School would have a mechanics class for those who are into vehicles and want to have the opportunity to learn how to work on vehicles and do more than just the basics.
The best advice that Priestley was ever given was, “Slowly let off the clutch and roll through the bite point.”
