With the school year ending, graduates come together one last time as a class, to get ready to start their journeys off to different paths. The ceremony went faster than anticipated and now is all a bittersweet memory and accomplishment.
With the main voice being one of our own, Robert Ames, puts together a speech for the 2026 graduates who worked hard for this moment. Ames described how he started creating his speech around spring break.
Ames said his time being the voice for the graduates was fun and he had a great time. “I spent a good time with a large portion of those seniors in my classes so it was good,” said Ames.
Ames hoped he accomplished incorporating as much information as he could.
With being the speaker, writing out can be difficult and challenging. Ames’s greatest challenge was that he didn’t want to be boring and he didn’t want to talk for too long. “Those were the two challenges. I hope I wasn’t boring and talked for too long. I was gonna talk about how I met my wife, but I cut that out because it took too long,” said Ames
This year’s group of seniors were special to many and will forever be a part of the DHS community. These seniors accomplished so much together as a class. “I think they’re a group that cares a lot about each other and I think their group is ready to move on to the next big thing,” said Ames.
Many teachers want to be remembered as someone years from now, but Ames described how he sees himself not being remembered. “Ill probably be forgotten, but that’s good because they will be worrying about the people that they love,” said Ames.
Ames’s speech covered everything he wanted to say to them. “What I most was looking forward to [after the ceremony was] seeing them one last time because after now it’s probably like maybe you will see them around maybe?,” said Ames.
With this being a heartfelt moment as Ames spoke at the ceremony, Ames wished the best for these special seniors. “I hope their lives will be great and can make the world better,” said Ames.
And finally, all at once they turn their tassels and threw their caps, and just like that their school years together for thirteen years are all over. They wish each other farewell and they bid goodbye to one another to begin a new chapter in their lives.
