The end of the year is here, which means it is an end and a new start for Olivia Hines. Hines has ended her career here at Delta High School and is ready to start a new one in Washington.
After Hines graduates, she will be attending Western Washington University in Bellingham WA. There she will be studying Marine and Coastal Science.
“Busy and stressful, but fun and enjoyable” are a couple of words that Hines used to describe her senior year.
Hines has had many fun moments throughout her senior year, “Going to Junction and the lake [during] senior ditch day with my friends. And Hoco and Prom,” said Hines.
Although all the seniors are leaving, we have new incoming freshmen, and not only freshmen but also seniors. Hines was a junior just last year. Leaving your freshman year and starting your last year in school could be difficult for some students.
Having advice from those who have gone through the experience would be a nice gesture to the incoming seniors. “Do all the scholarships you can and as early as you can. Make sure to double-check the date of when they’re due,” said Hines. This is the advice that Hines is giving to the incoming seniors.
Senior year is described as one of the hardest years of your life. As it being the last year before graduation, it is important to stay on top of stuff and pass. “Trying to balance scholarships, homework, planning a grad party, and sports,” said Hines. This has been the hardest part of Hines’ school year.
Hines is a varsity player for the DHS softball team. She tries to stay on top of sports and work at the same time while it’s softball season.
“Overall, I had a good experience at Delta High School. I made so many new friends and kept my friends from middle school. I’ll really miss being able to see them every day and miss all my underclassman friends who aren’t graduating with me. I’m looking forward to moving to a new place with new things to experience,” said Hines.
Certainly, the last day of school will come faster than many think. Saying “bye” to seniors has to be one of the hardest parts, and to many of us, saying goodbye to Hines is going to be hard.
Everyone has someone who helps them keep going and never give up. To Hines, that is her grandpa, “He’s always encouraged me and helped me work hard, and he’s been a great example to look up to,” said Hines.
