
With the speech and debate season at its climax, Students and members of the team are trying their hardest and working diligently to improve and exercise their skills, with tournaments such as national qualifiers coming up. While the Delta speech and debate team has not been winning almost every tournament as they would have in past years, that does not mean that the students involved are getting worse.
There are a bunch of students on the speech and debate team who have been successful this school year. There are a few notable students to look out for from each class. In the senior class, watch Alex Burrus, Hayden Pirela, Michaela Brennan, and Shelby Pride. These seniors have shown extraordinary proficiency and dedication to the team, with each one of them having over a thousand NSDA points, which are points that are awarded accordingly when they win or lose a debate. Both of these people, These seniors have shown wonderful leadership skills and have grown a lot over the years.
In the junior class, watch Stella Bubbins-Hill, and Abraham Hickson. These juniors have shown incredible growth over the years and have shown themselves to be formidable forces, despite not being at the top of their potential, and still having a year for them to learn and grow their skills. Both of these juniors have reached at least one thousand NSDA points, proving themselves to be hard-working members of the team. These juniors have surpassed their grade-level expectations and are a tremendous asset to the team.
Resuming the season sharp as iron in the sophomore class, watch Teagan Wells, Landyn Redlinger, Gabriella Gallenbeck, Danny Dunsing, and Madison Whitaker. These students have shown incredible growth despite being relatively new to the team. These students have shown strong dedication to the team, and they are putting a lot of effort into the team and into their growth. Their efforts are definitely showing off. These students have shown excellence and are projected to grow even more.
As for the freshmen, watchEmma St Clair, and Hayley Pirela. While they are new to the team and have not had a lot of experience, these freshmen have shown that they can be just as dedicated as the sophomores, juniors, and even the seniors on the team. Despite the season only being halfway through, these freshmen have both passed 150 NSDA points, earning them both the degree of excellence. These freshmen have shown incredible potential to grow and become strong and hard-working members of the team.
While Lopez is proud of every student on the speech and debate team, these few have shown strong dedication towards the betterment of their skills and the team as a whole.
